The 45th Infantry Division Association was formed in 1946, since that time they have remained in continuous operation. The organization provides support and information to those who have served in the 45th Infantry Division during World War II, Korea, and Post Korea, as well as those men and women who continue to serve in Oklahoma’s National Guard. Association members receive the 45th Division News a quarterly newsletter, and are invited to attend the 45th Infantry Division Association Reunion held each year in Oklahoma City. Reunions have been held every year since 1946. In addition to hosting the annual reunion, the Association provides vital support of the 45th Infantry Division Museum through direct financial support. Most recently the Association paid to have the Thunderbird Monument relocated to the museum grounds. This memorial honoring the men of World War II and Korea and the men and women of Oklahoma’s National Guard stood in downtown Oklahoma City from 1959 until 2002. Unfortunately, business developments and construction of skyscrapers left the monument hidden from view. The association determined relocation of the monument to the museum was the best solution.
